The four panels show different ranges of synonymous substitution rates (Ks), a proxy for how conserved shared scaffolds are and how recently scaffold sharing most likely occurred (from most recent, Ks < 0.01 at top left, to most distant, Ks 0.32–0.50, at bottom right).
